Hello All,

I just spent the a weekend day out and up to several Manton Vineyards with a sudo field-trip from my wine class. What a GREAT day.

the day started with a liesurely drive up to Manton Ca. That drive took about 45 minutes to get from Redding to the first Vineyard. The drive and the company was great so the 45 min. flew by.

Our first vineyard was Indian Peak. The owners "Donna and Fred Boots" had their wines set out and ready to sample. They had one of the largest selections of wines from that area. I personally enjoyed most of thier wines and bought "Donna's Dessert Wine" Yummy!

Our second stop was Shasta Daisy Vineyard. Carroll and Lorna Knedler opened their home as the wine tasting area. This made the tasting very personal. Even though their selection was limited the did present some very good wines. They offered a blended with grapes from the Napa Valley and I personally liked their home grown grape wines that were 100% from their vineard. They explaned that thay needed more grapes to get off the ground and in the futrue will have enough from thier own vineyards. Glad to hear that.

We then stumbled our way to Ringtail Vineyards. We pulled up in the driveway and they informed us that they were not yet open for tasting but will be open for "Cinco-De-Wino". We were kind of disapointed however as more of the class pulled up in the driveway... about 10 cars full of people. I thiink they saw an opportunity. They then said "We are not really ready for tasting but if you bare with us... " Our group of about 20 people eager to try their wine waited as the brought classes out and various wines and called the home of their Sales Manger to come right over!!! Talk about "Customer Service" Then we sampled their wines WoW! Their Gewurztraminer was one of the best!

After theat we then migrated over to Alger's Vineyards. They have a beautiful tasting room. Their tasting room is on the second floor and has a great view over the vineyard. They being one of the biggest private vineards in the area allows them to also have a large selection of wines to sample and buy. After the tasting there we went out on hAlger's back deck and enjoyed the outdoors, the view, and the food snacks that we had brought . We relaxed there for a while and prepared for the 45 min drive home.

Looking back that this wine tasting excursion, I enjoyed all four of the vineyards and will be making more trips up that way in the near future.

It was a great day! The wine was good and the company was fabulous. We had beautiful weather and I especially loved ending the event with that leisurely picnic overlooking Alger Vineyard. Let's do something like that again soon!
